Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS)

The Aboriginal Skills and Employment Training Strategy (ASETS) is the federal government’s successor strategy to the Aboriginal Human Resources Development Strategy (AHRDS) and is designed to help improve the employment opportunities of Aboriginal Peoples and enable them to fully participate in the Canadian Economy.

The new agreement comes into effect October 1, 2010 and expires on March 31, 2015.

A minimum level of services will be provided to clients such as:

  • access to advice, in their community, regarding career and employment possibilities on an appointment basis
  • access to job information by way of local postings or telephone communication
  • access to local fax and telephone facilities to support job search
  • access to assistance to prepare applications for education, training and employment
  • access to financial assistance on a fair and equitable basis
  • access to internet self-service provisions where they are available.

With respect to funding clients for training, all clients now are required to make an appointment with ASETS staff and begin a case management process.  The process will ensure the training fits the client’s career goal and that the training involves an occupation where there is a demand for workers.  For appointments please call:  (306) 332-2615.
