Justice

The Justice Department assists FHQ Tribal Council First Nations with restorative justice planning for the future growth and development of their communities by providing timely conflict resolution and advisory services facilitating the achievement of their goals.

Community Justice

The staff in this department assist the member First Nations with restorative justice planning, justice committee development and training and referrals for conflict resolution.  Some of the services offered include:  court referrals for mediation, sentencing and healing circles, diversion from courts, crime prevention workshops, by-law development and justice related proposals.

Court Worker Program

Acting as liaison between the client and the administrators of the Canadian Justice System our two court workers provide clients before the criminal courts with fair, just, equitable and culturally sensitive treatment … court points include:  Regina, Fort Qu’Appelle, Punnichy, Wynyard, Indian Head, Southey and Carry The Kettle First Nation.

Probation Services

The probation services program provides clients with a holistic approach to assessments and healing.  A concerted effort is made to connect the client with positive community resources insuring community ownership of the probation process.

Youth Justice Programs

Kekininishiwini (Lessons of Life)

Outreach – Antigang – helping youth stay out of gangs

Re-Integration – Youth in custody back into communities

Mentorship Program – Youth in custody – stay in school programs

Youth Peacemaker Program – Restorative Justice in Schools.

Community Justice Guidebook Launch

On June 23, 2010 a book launch was hosted by the Restorative Justice Unit of the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council at the Treaty Four Governance Centre in Fort Qu’Appelle, SK.  The information and knowledge in this publication is meant to serve as a guide to First Nations Community Justice Development.  It is an educational tool for justice committees, police management boards, court personnel, police services, government department staff, youth, community members, urban organizations and leadership.  In order to be sustainable and print copies independently we are selling the book at a cost of $50.00.
