Social Development

The Social Development Department is committed to the holistic healing of First Nation members including the physical, mental, spiritual and emotional aspects of individuals, families and communities.  The priorities of the Department are:

CHILDREN’S ACTION PLAN

To assist and advise First Nation communities through an integrated approach with technical support from FHQ Tribal Council departments on areas of child poverty, youth development and capacity building for community workers.

CHILD CARE

To assist First Nations in developing children’s programs – through training and education:

  • Addressing child poverty
  • Ensuring the availability of quality care services
  • Assisting in the revitalization of language and culture through programming in the Child Care Centres
  • Promotion and support of First Nations as they develop and maintain child care centers in their communities
  • Offering a child day care licensing and monitoring entity that promotes a safe, healthy and stimulating environment for on-reserve children.

ABORIGINAL HEAD START

Is to promote security for children in transition to school and to make that experience a happy one and to provide individualized attention to the children in the learning process.  The program is comprised of six components that the Centre staff input into their daily and weekly scheduling.  The 6 components of Head Start are:

  1. Culture and Language
  2. Parent and Family Involvement
  3. Social Support
  4. Nutrition
  5. Education
  6. Health Promotion

WOMEN’S COUNCIL

  • Goals to assist the First Nation’s Women in the eleven communities of FHQ
  • to detemine how individual First Nations women wish to organize women’s groups in their respective communities
  • to build and foster effective communication bridges among each community women’s group
  • to develop an organizational structure – connected to FHQTC and to each community group
  • to recommend and assist with processes for effective communication with the elected leadership within the FHQTC
  • ensure a community driven women’s voice is considered on issues of importance
  • to determine how the FHQTC programs and services can assist women in the communities with their concerns and issues
  • to assist the Saskatchewan First Nation’s Women’s Commission in their effort to bring women’s voices forth to the Provincial FSIN level.
