The File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council (FHQTC) is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as Director of Justice. This leadership position is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction, management, and delivery of Justice Department programs and services to our eleven member First Nations.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Finance and Administration, the Director of Justice is responsible for leading all justice-related initiatives, programs, and staff within the Tribal Council. The successful candidate will provide high-level guidance and coordination of legal and justice services, foster community partnerships, and promote culturally grounded, community-based justice solutions.
This role requires a strong blend of strategic planning, program management, legal knowledge, and a deep understanding of First Nations justice perspectives and governance systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- A degree in Human Justice, Law, Criminology, Indigenous Studies, or a related field is required; a combination of education and equivalent experience will be considered.
- Minimum of five (5) years of senior management experience, preferably in Indigenous or justice-related organizations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of federal and provincial justice systems, Indigenous legal systems, restorative justice principles, and relevant legislation and policies.
- Strong budgeting, planning, and reporting skills, including experience managing multi-program funding streams.
- Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
- Proven leadership, strategic thinking, and analytical skills.
- Deep understanding and respect for First Nations cultures, values, and traditions, with a commitment to community empowerment and self-determination.
