The FHQTC White Raven Healing Centre was established to provide an integrated approach to self-healing with a focus on holistic mental health and wellness program models. The Centre’s integrated approach balances and utilizes both contemporary non-Indigenous therapeutic techniques with traditional healing practices to facilitate individual healing.
The Centre is seeking an enthusiastic, self-directed and organized individual to fill a one-year term position as Community Wellness Outreach Liaison in Fort Qu’Appelle, SK. You will work within a team of very creative and purpose driven individuals within the Wellness Team as well as the broader Centre team; all committed to the mission, goals and objectives of the Centre works to achieve. This position will report to the Director of White Raven Healing Centre.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Community Wellness Outreach Liaison key responsibilities are, but not limited to:
•Provide first point of contact to incoming clients to the Centre; providing in-take screenings, referral processes to therapist and/or other resources.•Develop, establish and maintain positive external relationships with other programs within the WRHC and the Tribal Council, First Nations and other external partners and stakeholders and act as liaison towards outreach activities relating to the health and wellness.•Work collaboratively and in consultation with the rest of the WRHC clinical team, cultural and youth colleagues and broader FHQTC wellness services to ensure information, services and resources are available and accessible.•Providing an advanced level of experience in community-based traditional wellness and counselling support services.•Provide confidential liaison support services to individuals, children, youth, and families.•Support and assist stakeholders/nation members and leadership in developing an understanding of mental health and substance misuse issues.•Assist with identifying and addressing gaps, barriers, and challenges of service delivery and capacity building within the nations with the support of WRHC Leadership and the 11 First Nation’s health directors and leadership.•Research and resource development to enhance mental health and wellness strategies.
EDUCATION:
Graduation with a degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in Indigenous Social Work, Indigenous Studies, Psychology, or health related discipline or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience (addictions and mental health).
Acceptable combination is defined as: *The successful completion of two years of post-secondary education and the relevant training and experience relevant to the work to be performed.
EXPERIENCE
• Experience working with and counselling First Nation individuals, families, and/group communities.
• Knowledge of multiple modalities of counselling and wellness techniques.
• Case management and conflict resolution experience.
• Experience and understanding of project management and program work planning.
• Experience and ability to work on an individual basis or as an inter-disciplinary team member.
• Experience working in an environment that incorporates First Nation cultural healing with mental health programs and counselling services.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY:
• Knowledge of Indigenous mental health and addictions theories, and approaches.
• Knowledge of the historical and current social issues relating to First Nations communities and people, such as the intergenerational impacts of IRS, 60s scoop and other historical traumas.
• Excellent communication skills, written and oral interpersonal skills.
• Very strong ability to use technology to work in communications, data management, and reporting.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, administrative and organizational capabilities.
• Punctual and dependable with a strong ability to adjust priorities to meet current needs of clients, First Nations, the Centre and FHQTC.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
• Must live a life free of substance abuse and be willing and able to participate in the Centre’s cultural and traditional programs.
• Must be able to support the Centre’s crisis support program to individuals, children, youth, families, and groups within member First Nations.
• Candidates must provide a current original copy of the Canadian Criminal Records with Vulnerable Sector Check must get/have and maintain updated CPR/First Aid certification.
• Candidates must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license throughout the duration of employment.
• The hours of work are Monday to Friday 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
• Willingness and ability to work overtime and on short notice.
