The File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council (FHQTC), on behalf of Okanese First Nation, invites applications for a passionate and committed Elementary Teacher for a multi-grade classroom (Grades 4-6) with a .5 Administration role at the Okanese Learning Centre. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a transformative education initiative as the Okanese First Nation re-opens its community school, grounded in First Nations culture, language, and ways of knowing. This full-time term position begins in August 2026, offering the chance to help shape a culturally relevant, land-based, and student-focused learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver curriculum-aligned lessons for the classroom, integrating First Nations culture, history, and language.
Create a safe, inclusive, and engaging classroom environment that supports students’ success and well-being.
Collaborate with school leadership, FHQTC education staff, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and the community to reflect traditional knowledge in teaching practices.
Participate in professional development and school-based planning aligned with the Okanese Lifelong Learning Model.
Monitor and assess student progress and maintain accurate records.
Contribute to a team culture that promotes respect, responsibility, and a love for learning.
Oversee administrative duties on behalf of the Okanese Learning Centre.
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) and a valid Saskatchewan teaching certification.
- Master of Education is preferred.
- Clear Criminal Record Check and must be in good standing with the SPTRB.
- Demonstrated experience in early childhood or primary education is preferred.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn First Nations ways of knowing and teaching.
- Experience working in First Nations communities or with Indigenous students is considered an asset.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
- Commitment to culturally responsive education and student-centered learning.
