Qu’Appelle Haven Safe Shelter (QHSS)

The Qu’Appelle Haven Safe Shelter is located in Fort Qu’Appelle. It is a 24-hour safe shelter for women and their children escaping domestic violence and crisis situations.

Qu’Appelle Haven provides client-centered programming incorporating First Nations healing approaches, counselling, outreach and domestic abuse awareness, and prevention services.

Goals and Objectives:

  • To provide and maintain a safe environment for women and children fleeing from any sort of abuse.
  • To educate, counsel, support, and advocate on behalf of women and children to ensure the abuse does not continue.
  • To empower women and children to live independently from abuse through constructive change to end violence in their lives.
  • To provide follow-ups and referrals to women who have left the shelter. 
Qu’Appelle Haven Safe Shelter Programs:
  • Residential Crisis Services – provides temporary emergency shelter, support counselling, crisis/distress counselling, needs assessment and intake, case management and action planning, advocacy, and referrals for women and their children fleeing abusive situations.
  • Childcare Services– provides needs assessment and intake, as well as in-house programming such as parenting skills support, advocacy and referrals, crisis intervention, and other services as required.
  • Outreach Services – provides information, advocacy, and referrals to other service agencies, such as social services, treatment centres, police, emergency intervention orders, and court. Includes information and education, client follow-up, and group meetings to support women and their families fleeing abuse.

Wichihik Iskwewak Safe House (WISH)

The TFHQ Safe Shelters Inc. operates two shelters in the city of Regina

One of the shelters is the WISH Safe House. It is a 14-bed facility which provides 24-hour temporary emergency shelter, individual and family assistance, support, referrals, children’s programming, and outreach services to women and children fleeing from violence and abuse.

The second facility is the TFHQ Second Stage Shelter. This facility is a four-unit shelter. Each unit is a 3-bedroom, fully furnished rental unit. The units provide women and children a safe, secure, and affordable living environment, continued assistance, support, referrals, and other required services.

WISH Safe House Programs:
  • Residential Crisis Services – provides temporary emergency shelter, individualized and family care, assistance, support and family-centered case planning, referrals, and other services as required for women and children who are fleeing from violence and abuse. The objective is to create personal awareness, understanding, and knowledge regarding individual/family abuse and violence.
  • Childcare Services – aids, supports, and delivers informational services to children and women at the WISH Safe House to include crisis intervention, assistance and support, assessment, referrals, personal/professional development, and other services as required.
  • Outreach Services – provides victims of violence and their families with information and referrals to other service agencies, family and individual counselling, parenting support, employment and educational information, housing, health care, nutrition, budgeting, and other required services.
