Sports and Recreation

FHQTC Sports and Recreation is committed to providing the opportunity for all youth from our member First Nations to participate in the Tony Cote Winter and Summer Games, as well as encouraging healthy lifestyles through sport, recreation, and culture programming.

Some of the activities we provide include:
  • Coaching and skills clinics
  • Planning sports and recreation activities within the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council
  • Promoting athletes’ involvement in the North American Indigenous Games and provincial games
  • Identifying sports and recreation needs in each community to develop programs

Mission

To empower our First Nations youth to grow and live healthy, active lives regardless of where they fit on the recreation and sport continuum. We accomplish this through programming, education, partnerships, and appropriate nation-based facilities, and through an effective sport, culture, and recreation delivery system.

Goals

The Sports, Culture, Recreation, and Youth Program strives to encourage healthy lifestyles through sports and recreation for all First Nations youth residing within member First Nations by providing activities that foster and promote the following:

  • Skill development and enhancement of abilities
  • Increased participation in sport
  • Increased capacity for volunteers, officials and coaches
  • Friendship and healthy lifestyles for our youth, teams and communities
  • The fostering of a sense of community and companionship to enhance quality of life
  • The development of sport, healthy competition and healthy productive lifestyles

FHQTC Indigenous Rookie League

FHQTC Indigenous Rookie League is a summer baseball program delivered in partnership with the Toronto Blue Jays Care Foundation. The League is for all ages within the 11 member First Nations of FHQTC.

This League is unique because it measures more than wins and losses. We created a point system that is all about community involvement, teamwork, and intergenerational connections. The Nation with the most points at the end of the League wins a trip to Toronto to see a Blue Jays game live!

The theme of this league is family fun, sportsmanship, and First Nations coming together to create positive experiences and impacts for all community members.
