Peepeekisis Pesakastew School is seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated Guidance Counsellor. Working under the supervision of the Principal, the Guidance Counsellor will provide support to students and families in areas such as educational issues, career planning, personal development, assessments, referrals, and crisis response.

Reporting to the Director of Acute & Clinical Services or her designate, the Staff Scheduling Coordinator provides staff scheduling and ADP administrative support services to the departments of Health Services and All Nations’ Healing Hospital. Utilizing electronic scheduling and time and attendance systems, the incumbent helps to maintain staff schedules, supports workforce planning activities, while ensuring compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements, organizational policies, staffing guidelines, and operational requirements.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide services on educational issues, career planning, and personal development to students and families.
  • Implement assessments.
  • Participate in response planning for possible critical incidents or traumatic events.
  • Act as a liaison between students, families, and external services.
  • Counsel students on course and program selection, timetables, scheduling, school adjustment, attendance problems, and study skills.
  • Counsel students on career or vocational issues, including career exploration and planning, resume preparation, job interview skills, job search strategies, and occupational information.
  • Coordinate co-op and school-to-work transition programs.
  • Provide counselling and information services, including career information, professional development sessions, and exchanges with other educational institutes.
  • Consult with teachers, staff, parents, psychologists, speech therapists, social workers, administrators, and community agencies regarding student concerns, programs, and referrals.
  • Provide guidance to students on personal and social issues such as substance abuse, depression, sexuality, eating disorders, anxiety, self-esteem, family problems, relationships, interpersonal skills, and anger management.
  • Provide guidance to students in crisis situations.
  • Supervise students on school outings.
  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • University bachelor’s degree.
  • A combination of education and experience will also be considered.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work as a team player.
  • Experience with multitasking.
  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
  • Dependable and reliable.
  • CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
