Reporting to the Community Based Prevention Manager, the Prevention Service Coordinator will provide a holistic approach to the wellness of the child, family, and community. The role is based on knowledge of First Nation law, beliefs, and practices, with guidance and involvement from Elders and the support of family and community members. The Coordinator will work with the Community Based Prevention Services Committee and community family members to plan, implement, and evaluate community-based prevention projects and services, while helping identify strengths and needs for appropriate prevention services for families.
Reporting to the Director of Acute & Clinical Services or her designate, the Staff Scheduling Coordinator provides staff scheduling and ADP administrative support services to the departments of Health Services and All Nations’ Healing Hospital. Utilizing electronic scheduling and time and attendance systems, the incumbent helps to maintain staff schedules, supports workforce planning activities, while ensuring compliance with applicable collective bargaining agreements, organizational policies, staffing guidelines, and operational requirements.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan and develop community-based prevention workshops and individual or small-group projects related to project-based learning, goals, and objectives.
- Coordinate community-based prevention activities with support staff and resource people.
- Work with the Community Based Prevention Services Committee.
- Serve as a resource for community-based prevention projects.
- Develop and provide services for students in coordination with school-based staff.
- Consult with school staff to develop project-based learning projects that support at-risk students with educational, career, and personal/social needs and goals.
- Serve as a liaison between parents, community members, and services.
- Develop and facilitate project-based learning projects that help parents enhance and strengthen parenting skills.
- Respond to requests for information using a project-based learning approach to support family needs and functions.
- Assist in connecting families experiencing difficulties to collateral community-based resources for appropriate or specialized services.
- Attend community-based prevention meetings and in-service programs.
- Participate in evaluation processes related to prevention projects and activities.
- Provide additional services as required by the supervisor.
- Attend or provide training sessions in community-based prevention when appropriate.
- Work at the school, conduct home visits, work in the community, and follow a flexible work schedule.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Grade 12 with demonstrated community work experience; or
- Certificate/Diploma in a related discipline with demonstrated community work experience; or
- Bachelor of Social Work or four-year undergraduate degree in a related discipline with demonstrated community work experience, considered an asset.
- Ability to assess and identify at-risk families and refer or engage appropriate resources.
- Professional judgement and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work with and support Child and Family Services Authorities.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of Cree culture and the political and social objectives of Peepeekisis Cree Nation and community members.
- Knowledge and understanding of the impacts of colonialism, Indian Residential Schools, intergenerational trauma, and the child welfare system in First Nations communities.
- Knowledge of the differences between Community Based Prevention Program and Protection Program streams.
- Valid driver’s licence and reliable vehicle.
- CPIC and Vulnerable Sector Check required.
- Willingness to upgrade skills when time and funding permit.
- Willingness to work evenings and weekends.
- Ability to sign an Oath of Confidentiality.
