Regina Treaty/Status Indian Services Inc. (RT/SIS) is a non-profit organization that provides a range of programs and services to the First Nations population in the City of Regina. RT/SIS is an affiliate organization of the Touchwood Agency and the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council that serves 15 First Nations in Southern Saskatchewan and within the Treaty Four Territory.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Family Wellness Unit Coordinator, the Wellness and Addictions Counsellor will provide prevention, assessment, referral, counselling and follow-up services to individuals and family members affected by substance use. They will foster clients’ care by assessing needs then working in collaboration with integrated programming staff to develop, monitor, and evaluate integrated case plans and progress.
The Wellness and Addictions Counsellor will provide confidential assistance to help individuals and families identify and deal with addictions through treatment and prevention programs. They will provide culturally competent services including confidential individual, family or group counselling. The Wellness and Addictions Counsellor will ensure that referrals are made to appropriate treatment and prevention services as required. They will monitor and work in close consultation with program staff to ensure that standards and quality services are maintained.
QUALIFICATIONS
Four-year undergraduate degree in social work or addictions counselling certification with a minimum of one year experience with addictions services;
Certification in Safe Food Handling, WHMIS, CPR and First Aid;
Knowledge of the Saskatchewan Residential Services Act and the Youth Criminal Justice Act;
Knowledge of the Saskatchewan First Nations Child and Family Services Group Homes and Community Care Programs Standards of Care Manual;
Knowledge of City of Regina’s community programs and continuum of care;
Knowledge of various software programs (i.e. MS Office programs, Internet);
Experience with documentation and analyzing information;
Group programming development and facilitation experience with an understanding of group dynamics;
Ability to conduct assessments and develop treatment plans;
Established experience in case management, conflict resolution and critical thinking;
Excellent interpersonal, communication, administrative and organizational capabilities;
Punctual and dependable with the ability to work flexible hours and to maintain flexibility in the responsibilities of the position;
Must possess a valid driver’s license and own vehicle;
Must be able to pass security screening and maintain confidentiality;
Knowledge of First Nations values, culture, traditions, and governance.
