Working with Head Start

Our Aboriginal Head Start on Reserve (AHSOR) programs are rooted in culture, language and community. We aim to support our children to learn, play, and grow in safe and nurturing environments.

If you love working with children and want to make a positive impact in our communities, there are meaningful job opportunities in our Head Start and Early Learning programs.

What Qualifications Do I Need?

To work in a Head Start centre, you will need:

  • Early Childhood Education (ECE) training
  • Current First Aid/CPR (Level C with AED)
  • Safe Food Handling certification
  • WHMIS certification
  • A clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector screening

Many people begin by completing ECE Level 1 and then continue learning while working in their home community. If you are just getting started, ECE Level 1 is your first step.

Early Childhood Education (ECE) training

There is an upcoming Indigenous Early Childhood Education, Level 1 Certification being offered by the Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technology (SIIT): https://siit.ca/apply-now/
