Sports and Recreation Summer Student

Position Summary: 
Reporting to the Sports and Recreation Coordinator, the Summer Students will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of sports, recreation, and wellness initiatives across FHQTC communitiesA key responsibility includes the coordination of the Jays Care Rookie League, a community-based baseball program promoting inclusion, leadership, and healthy living among Indigenous youthThe successful candidate will facilitate engaging recreational opportunities and help build capacity in local sports and wellness programs.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan, organize, and deliver the Jays Care Rookie League across FHQTC communities, ensuring inclusive and culturally relevant programming.

    Assist in the planning and implementation of sport and recreation activities.

    Support the organization of tryouts, practices, and clinics for events such as the Tony Cote First Nations Summer Games.

    Assist with volunteer recruitment, training, and supervision for community initiatives.

  • Maintain equipment inventory, track participation, and manage logistics for wellness programming.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Currently enrolled in or completed post-secondary education in Kinesiology, Education, Health, Sport Management, or a related field.
  • Skills: Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently and within a team.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of youth development and inclusive sport programming.
  • Experience: Previous experience coaching youth and organizing recreational events.
  • Requirements: A valid driver’s license, a clear Criminal Record Check, and a willingness to travel.
