Conflict of Interest Guidelines
Restorative Justice staff is individually responsible for preventing potential and actual conflicts of interest and will arrange projects and private financial affairs in a manner that prevents such conflicts from arising. We will reveal immediately any perceived or potential facts in any situation where private interests conflict with those of our employment duties.
Restorative Justice services will not take personal advantage of, or privately benefit from, information that is obtained during, or as a result of, their official duties or position that is not public knowledge. Restorative Justice services will not use or allow the use of FHQTC assets or services for personal gain.
When leaving their positions, Restorative Justice staff will not take improper advantage of their former position. This includes equipment, materials, or intellectual properties.
Restorative Justice Code of Conduct
This policy is based on FHQTC’s core values of respect and integrity, accountability, and cooperation.
Respect and Integrity
- Provide coworkers with an environment that is professional, mutually supportive, and free from discrimination, harassment, and bullying.
- Provide the public with a professional, effective, and efficient service while conducting their work with objectivity and integrity.
- Treat the public, employees, and offenders with respect, dignity, and courtesy within the work environment and in all circumstances related to the employee’s duties.
- Respect people’s cultural and/or religious beliefs and practices.
- If conflict arises between the private interest and the official duties of a public servant, the conflict will be resolved in in favor of the public interest and in alignment with FHQTC polices and regulations.
- Fulfill duties in the work environment and in the community as a role model.
- Conduct themselves in a professional manner that reflects positively on FHQTC and the Restorative Justice unit generally.
Accountability
- Fulfill their duties in a professional, diligent, timely, and competent manner.
- Perform their duties and arrange their private affairs so that our member First Nations and citizens maintain public trust in the integrity, objectivity, and impartiality of FHQTC.
- Act at all times in a manner that will bear the closest public scrutiny, an obligation that is not fully discharged by simply acting within the law.
- Contribute to the good order, safety, and security of their work environment and instill public confidence in justice services.
- Use entitlements, benefits, and privileges for the sole purpose for which they were intended and are stated.
- Provide participants with professional and ethical services for their safety and security, and offer services to heal, strengthen their ability to live, work, and contribute to their community.
- Shall make decisions in the public interest being accountable, safe, and secure.
Cooperation
- Identify to their supervisors any concern that a given policy, program, or procedure presents an imminent danger to the health or safety of an employee, employer, work environment, or the public.
- Report or take appropriate action when an employee/employer acts contrary to the code of conduct or code of ethics of the File Hills Qu’Appelle Tribal Council.
- Work cooperatively with other employees, offenders, and victims to achieve the objectives of the Restorative Justice unit.
- Individually or collectively perform their duty in a manner that minimizes risk of harm to any employee or any other person(s) either directly or indirectly.
- Present themselves with professionalism, integrity, impartiality, and without prejudice in their words and actions.
